Walled Garden in Milford

This sunny garden in Milford had a wonderful walled backdrop with some very smart slatted fence panels but lacked any flower beds or focal points. The client wanted to enhance the garden with some planting.

Wall and freshly cut out flower beds

We designed the new flower beds introducing curves to soften the edges of the rectangular garden and used a range of plant shapes and textures to create visual interest and colours that would compliment the stone wall behind.

A crab apple provided the focal point. Its rich blossom marks the arrival of spring and it is particularly beneficial to wildlife, providing an important source of early pollen and nectar, which was important to my client.

We designed the new flower beds introducing curves to soften the edges of the rectangular garden.

In addition to this, two espalier apple trees fan the wall with the masonry absorbing the sun's heat and allowing for the quick ripening of fruit.

Clematis scale the screening whilst sun loving Sedum, Salvia, Erigeron and Geranium in a palette of white, dark pinks and purples burst with colour at the front of the border.

Pittosporum beach balls and tall Miscanthus grasses punctuate and link the planting and make a strong statement through the winter months.

In addition to the back garden, two sleeper beds at the front of the house were redesigned, using a mix of topiary, flowering shrubs, ornamental grasses and flowering perennials, ensuring seasonal interest and year-round appeal.
